Lojong Mind Training - Ven. Amy Miller

How its application can help us prepare for death and difficult times with confidence and compassion

“Happiness should be brought under control, and suffering ended. If you are lonely, it will be the companion of sorrow. If you are sick, it will nurse you.” – saying of the Kadam Lamas.

Lojong or ‘mind training’ is an essential part of Buddhist training that teaches us how to transform problems into opportunities for deep spiritual growth. Ven. Amy will explore how lojong practices can help us lessen fear, regret and confusion in times of adversity; so this program will not only help us prepare for the major transition of death, but will also show us how we can develop a more peaceful and meaningful life.

“In our heart we do not think death will happen to us. Living in denial we spend our lives in distraction filling each available moment with constant busyness.”- Geshe Jampa Tegchok

This 4-session course will incorporate a variety of lojong texts such as the profound yet brief, Turning Suffering and Happiness into Enlightenment, by Jikme Tenpe Nyime, the Third Drodupchen Rinpoche and The Eight Verses of Thought Transformation by Kadampa Geshe Langri Thangpa.

Additionally, lojong practice helps us:

  • Cultivate mental resilience
  • Develop compassion
  • Shift focus from external blame to self-reflection and accountability
  • Reduce anxiety, increase inner peace, and develop healthier behavior overall.

Ven. Amy will also be guiding a full weekend on Lojong, which will be more focused on meditation, at our retreat center in Loenen.

Donation

Dāna (generosity) is one of the cornerstones of the Buddhist path. By virtue of their generosity, the Buddha and the ordained sangha offer us the teachings, and in exchange, the lay community supports Dharma centers and the monastic community. This interdependence is essential for us to share the Dharma and continue our work to benefit all sentient beings. With your donation we support our teachers in their cost of living and we uphold our dharma center, which is managed entirely by volunteers.

The suggested donation for the course of 4 classes is €60. For students and people with low income, the suggested donation is €40. Please send us an email if you'd like to make use of this option. Keep in mind that the donation amount should never be an obstacle to your access to the Dharma. Please contact us if it might be an obstacle for you.
