Please book well in advance as places are limited.

The individual cultivation of Shamatha (literally, “calm presence”) and Vipashyana (literally, “insight”) and the union of the two comprise the essence of all Buddhist meditation, and they are the foundation for all practices of Vajrayana meditation, including Mahamudra and Dzogchen.

Alan always try to find the most beneficial balance in terms of the time allotted to lectures, guided meditations, and questions and answers. He is flexible and happy to find that balance in dialogue with the participants.

Shamatha Meditation

During the first retreat, Alan Wallace will first offer guided meditations and teachings on three shamatha practices: mindfulness of breathing, shamatha focused on the mind, and awareness of awareness. All such practices are designed to subdue the obscurations that veil the clear and luminous relative nature of the mind and to prepare one for the contemplative exploration of the ultimate nature of reality, which completely frees the mind of all afflictions and obscurations.

Sunday June 24th 20.00 to Wednesday 27th 17.00

This retreat includes accommodation, bed linen, towel, vegetarian meals and tea & coffee.

Students are requested to do some 'karma yoga', meaning to help with some household work during the course as part of our spiritual practice to help each other, and so we can keep the retreat affordable.
