City Weekend: Karma - Ven. Amy Miller

Everything comes from the mind

Our mind and our karma are the true sources of both our happiness and our suffering—far more powerful than any external circumstances. Everything we experience begins with our mind: the way we perceive the world is shaped by our past actions (karma) and the thoughts we project onto our experiences. By learning to understand this, we can see how things aren’t as fixed or unchangeable as they might seem.

“Any person who doesn’t know the secret of the mind, the supreme principal of Dharma,
even if desiring to achieve happiness and destroy suffering, will wander in samsara, meaninglessly.”

– Shantideva’s Engaging in the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life
